Sciatica

Sciatica is pain affecting the back, hip, and leg, caused by compression of a spinal nerve root in the lower back, often owing to degeneration of an intervertebral disc. This nerve pain can vary in frequency and intensity depending on what you’re doing. It can feel like a dull ache, sharp pain, burning sensation, tingling, numbness, or pins and needles. It can affect one or both legs, either at the same time or alternating right and left.

.

Is Sciatica Caused by Sciatic Nerve Compression?

Yes, it can be. Spinal problems such as herniated or bulging discs, tight hip muscles, and pregnancy can all contribute to nerve compression and sciatica. The good news is that chiropractic treatment can help alleviate many of its symptoms including leg pain and lower back pain.

Chiropractic Pain Relief Treatments

After determining a diagnosis, our Meridian, ID, chiropractor will make treatment recommendations. Some pain relief and/or corrective treatments we offer at our chiropractic office include:

  • Spinal Adjustments: A common potentially contributing factor of sciatica is instability of the spine. A spinal adjustment can help correct it.
  • Spinal Decompression: Because sciatica can be caused by bulging or herniated discs, spinal decompression can help relieve these ailments. Decompression therapy may be performed in a series of sessions for continued relief.
  • Deep Tissue Laser Therapy: Promoting blood flow and lymphatic drainage to and from swollen areas can greatly enhance healing.
