What is Spinal Decompression?
Decompression Therapy is a highly successful treatment for patients suffering from bulging, ruptured, degenerative, or herniated discs as well as sciatica, spinal stenosis, and many failed back surgery cases. Decompression Therapy begins with a series of sessions typically 3-4 times per week. Each session is approximately 8-12 minutes. During each session, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, or therapeutic laser may be applied to help relax muscles and promote further healing of injured tissues.
How Does Spinal Decompression Work?
The controlled, computer-assisted movements used during spinal decompression allow the spine and disc to stretch and relax without causing the guarding muscles to overreact after the treatment is complete. This allows blood and nutrients to flow into the spine and discs, which can speed up healing. Most traction devices and techniques cause the muscles guarding an injured area to become over stretched, therefore offering only short term symptomatic relief without healing, or even causing further injury.
Who Is Spinal Decompression For?
Spinal decompression can help with a wide range of conditions. It's most often used to treat herniated or bulging discs. This means the disc is bulging out of its normal position or that the jelly-like interior has broken through the tough outer coating. It can also treat disc tears, ruptured discs, and degenerative disc disease. Spinal stenosis, sciatica, and facet syndrome can also be treated with spinal decompression.
